Christmas Presents from the Mayfair!

Lee, Ian and Josh at the Mayfair have cooked up some great Christmas fare for you this year! This December at our favourite grand lady of a cinema they have:

December 3rd

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Presented by zombieinfo.com and The Zombie King

“Imagine if you will, a remake of John Carpenter's The Thing. But instead of the Antarctic, we're in rural Finland. And instead of Kurt Russell, there's a nine-year-old kid. And instead of a marauding, shape-changing space beast, there's, well, Santa Claus.” (Time Out London) No matter what you just imagined, this film is better."

If you miss the Premiere it also plays on Dec 4th, 8th and 9th.

December 10th

The ORIGINAL Canadian Independent Slasher - Black Christmas. This is your chance to see this bit 'o cinematic history on the big screen!

"Canadian Bob Clark, director of the beloved classics A Christmas Story, also directed this sorority-house slasher, which was a major influence on John Carpenter’s Halloween."

Also playing on Dec. 15th.

December 17th

A wicked double bill of Christmas on Mars and Silent Night, Deadly Night.

Silent Night, Deadly Night probably needs no introduction to the folks who read this site, but just in case:

"After his parents are murdered, a young tormented teenager goes on a murderous rampage dressed as Santa, due to his stay at an orphanage where he was abused by the Mother Superior." (IMDB)

I don't know if Christmas On Mars really qualifies as a "Horror" movie per se, but this little but of psychedelia from The Flaming Lips may well be the strangest thing you see all year. If you like your movies WAAAAAY left of center (like me) this might be a nice stocking stuffer!

"Major Syrtis goes a bit loony as he tries to improve morale in an almost-abandoned colony on Mars by staging a Christmas pageant at which the first colonial child will be born. When an alien arrives, things get even more complicated in this fantastical freak-out from the front-man of The Flaming Lips."

Also on Dec. 18th.

Scary Christmas and a very Strange New Year!
