Postscripts to Darkness III Launch Party - April 5th

This Friday, April 5th, the Postscripts to Darkness III Launch Party will take place at Avant-Garde Bar on Besserer Street in Ottawa. For directions and a little who's-who check the facebook event listing. Invite friends and attend!

As with the previous volumes, the stories selected cut deep into the fabric shrouding the dark artistic core of horror and weird tales. They are laid end-to-end and stitched with one unending thread, the next story casually woven into the next by a theme, a word, a colour... or a cause of death.
PSTD III cover teaser by Tais Teng
I was able to preview the entire book, and as with PSTD II which we covered last summer, the selections have matured. While I considered the first installation 'experimental' in nature, and the second where this anthology series began to solidify, volume III is able to blend from a wider gamut of talent to showcase a mosaic from whimsical and poetic, to visceral and abrupt fiction. This way, it harks back to the first installation but with so much more guts. Oh yes... guts. It's darker. By quite a bit. As the version I have seen did not contain all of the artwork, I can only imagine what the artists chose to work with!

Edited by Ottawa professors Sean Moreland (U of O) and Aalya Ahmad (Carleton), this is an anthology of dark fiction, wonderfully illustrated, that also contains one author interview per issue. Gemma Files is featured in an interview conducted by James K. Moran, giving stark insight into the horror fiction genre from a reviewer-author-connoisseur point-of-view.

I will be reading 'Thirteen Seconds' by Christian A. Larsen - he and I share past publishers via Post Mortem Press and West Pigeon Press - so this will be a treat. Some authors that will be giving readings of their work include Alyssa Cooper and James K. Moran, who read at the Pre-Halloween Bash. Eerie and dark stories take place between always illuminating horror literature trivia and fascinating insight from the editors. Illustrations from the book will also be on display.

For more about the authors included, head over to the PSTD site. You can also see teaser art, and information on the artists who include Mirror Comics' Dominic Bercier, profiled previously on Ottawa Horror.

"On Apr 5, 2013, from 7-9 pm Postscripts to Darkness will launch our third volume with a party at Ottawa’s incomparable Avant Garde Bar. The event will feature readings from some of our disturbingly gifted contributing authors, with accompanying displays of work by our uncannily imaginative illustrators, as well as a horror-trivia challenge with awful prizes to be won… not to mention great drinks, food, and conversation. Come get your creep on, and support Ottawa's premiere anthology of the weird!"
